We are proud to announce Yosef Hay Mirakov Cohen as the Will Sheffey Kappa Sigma Endowment scholarship winner for the 2021 academic year.

Yosef is an international student from Israel and pursuing a degree in Marketing and Entrepreneurship at VCU. Yosef grew up in a family with five brothers, and he's the first in his family to attend college. He engaged with the VCU Vegan Club to provide branding and designs such as a logo, t-shirts, posters, and social media ‎graphics during his first year. He also started an online print-on-demand business — he sold t-shirts and face masks made of organic materials and water-based inks to promote sustainability and veganism.

IN HIS OWN WORDS YOSEF WRITES…

The reason why I chose VCU is because of how diverse and how great the academics are. I am a member of the Veg Club. This club is made for vegans and vegetarians, and everyone in between, and the goal is to educate students about plant-based diets. I am also a member of the American Marketing Association. I participate in networking events, such as guest speaker conferences, Adobe sponsorship events, and site visits to develop my marketing skills and knowledge. In addition, I meet new friends in the same field of interest and study.

MY FUTURE PLANS AND GOALS

At VCU, I hope to accomplish a Bachelor of Science in marketing communications and analytics to learn about the world of business and digital marketing while being on the Dean's List. The knowledge that I will acquire from VCU will help me start my own business in a profession that grows each year. My career goals are to give back to my family by being a self-employed digital marketing firm that works with small businesses that are advocates of sustainability, fair trade, and ethical business practices. To get there, I need to go through the following steps, get a bachelor's degree in marketing communications, get experience in the field, open a firm, and finally, earn enough to give back to my family. Thank you. I am grateful to receive this scholarship because this scholarship will balance some of the costs and decrease my workload, which will allow me to focus more on my courses. Because this reduces costs, then I can give back more to my family in the future.
